Choosing the right engineering college plays a vital role in a student’s career. It can both build a career and ruin it. Candidates must check the below-mentioned parameters before taking admission into any institute. These parameters ensure that the institute is sweet enough for the studies and the longer term.
Accreditation & Affiliations:
Before getting admitted to any college in India, the accreditations and affiliations for the engineering colleges must be properly checked. Institutes must be approved by the AICTE. While the University, recognition is given by the UGC or even state Government can also permit a university u/s 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956. The approval/accreditation numbers should be verified from the official websites of UGC & AICTE.
Certifications:
in India accreditation is given by NAAC and NBA. If any institute is claiming any such sort of certifications, then it must be checked on the official websites of those agencies. Alongside this, some companies also provide certifications to the institute, like ISO certification, etc which also increases the reputation of a college. The most important factor that must be kept in mind is that accreditation is always granted to courses, not to any institute. For example, if an institute runs 10 courses and is accredited A+, it never means all the 10 courses are accredited. So you have to check whether your course is accredited or not.
Placement:
Placement is one of the foremost important factors to be checked by a candidate before taking admission. It is often checked on the official website of the institute, news, and media channel websites, and therefore the social networking sites.
Reputation:
The reputation of an engineering college is often checked on social media channels like Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter, etc. Reputation is often checked by the comments posted by the scholars and faculties on the social media pages of the institute.
Number and quality of full-time faculties:
it’s vital to see what proportion number of full-time faculties is there within the institute, as if the amount of full-time faculties is smaller than there’ll be very hindrances within the course completion. Quality of college must even be checked on the grounds like teaching experience, degree of the professor, etc. Better faculties helped the candidates in shaping their future in a better way.
The student-to-school ratio:
The student-faculty ratio explains the number of colleges per student, like 15:1 states that in every 15 students there’s 1 faculty. Lowering the scholar faculty implies a far better institute.
Infrastructure:
Infrastructure is a vital factor that indicates how better facilities are provided to the scholars except for placement and study. It is often checked on the idea of a library, labs, location, transportation, classrooms, etc. The role of better infrastructure is to provide a better learning experience and a better learning environment.
Curriculum:
Curriculum means the number of various courses and therefore the number of specializations during a particular course at the institute. An outsized number of courses mean a far better facility for a student to settle on a course as per his/her choice.
Extracurricular activities:
This also plays a crucial role in the comprehensive development of the scholars. It makes students more confident as they get a platform to point out their talents, which also results in good communication between them. So, it must be checked that the school organizes fests or includes different societies and clubs.
Graduation rate & research opportunities:
Graduation rate means what percentage of students is completing their degree from the actual institute per annum. If the score is high, it states that the institute provides better teaching facilities. If there’s a research & development facility is out there in an institute then it is often considered that the institute supports the innovation of a candidate.
Tie-Ups/Study Abroad Programs/Internships/ scholarships:
this is often another parameter that automatically enhances the reputation of any engineering college. An honest number of foreign university tie-ups, company tie-ups, and study abroad programs ensure a far better exposure of a candidate, whereas internships and scholarships ensure better participation of a candidate. This parameter should even be checked before admission.
Alumni network:
Alumni networks are often considered because of the achievements of the engineering college made by the institute. Alumni in good positions, privately, public or government organizations represent the higher studies and placement services at the institute.
Memberships:
it’s an important parameter that will help students to urge jobs after completion of a degree. If the institute is a member of a varied industrial association like FICCI, CII, etc. industries like better to hire students from their member institutes.
Library:
the library is the heart of each good institute. Do visit the library of the school you’re getting admission to. Check the number of books, magazines, international journals, membership of e-journals, etc. The higher the amount of those readable, the better the institute is. You’ll check the impact factor of journals & e-journals. Journals with an impact factor of 5 are the best ones.
